Viva La Diva:
a divalicious blog
If only I could get a nickel for every time I’ve
been asked where singles in Southwest Florida go to mix and mingle,
I’d be a rich diva. Unfortunately though, I can’t always
provide the answer. Our area has been jokingly referred to as “home
of the newly wed and the nearly dead” and is notorious for
being a decidedly challenging locale when it comes to being unattached.
But just recently, I saw a glimmer of hope for my
singleton sisters – ladies night at The Edison. Last Wednesday,
my husband and I decided to head just a few blocks from our home
to enjoy dinner there. The food was delicious (I had the famous
chicken pot pie; my hubby had the meat loaf), but what really struck
us was the party! Both bars (the one inside has a cozy elegance;
while the outdoor bar overlooking the golf course is breezy and
open) were absolutely packed with people having a fab time. Gina
Birch of WINK-FM broadcasts live from 6 – 8; and girls get
the opportunity to win some great door prizes (on August 6th, a
trip to Key West is up for grabs), and there’s complimentary
pizza — but the real draw seems to be the vodka martini bar
(free for the ladies from 6 – 8pm) on the patio.
For singles, the best part was that the male to
female ratio was well-balanced. During my single days, it always
seemed that there were scads more girls than guys at all the hot
spots. But, since The Edison has a golf course, plenty of fellows
are just coming off the links as the ladies are arriving for free
martinis – perfect! And while I noticed people of all ages,
I’d have to say the median range was between 35 and 45. The
dress and vibe were casual, as musician Derek Trenholm led the crowd
in a rousing sing-along of “Sweet Caroline.”
