Familiar Place... with a different taste

Dining with The Convivials

Boasting a new era, the Edison Restaurant and Bar on McGregor Boulevard is the newest venture of the stunning plantation-style building on the Fort Myers Country Club.

Taking over the former Syl’s Chicago Grill, The Edison is a revamped spot celebrating the American inventor Thomas A. Edison.

The restaurant has a sophisticated and elegant finesse to it. Dimly light, the cozy dining area is spacious in size and decorated in very good taste. Warm tones enhance the walls. Photographs of the “great scientist” take one back to mid to late 1800s. And mellow, easy-listening jazzy tunes fill the room.

Our visit to this delightful restaurant was a lunchtime one. We were invited into the dinning area and our view was a lovely sight of the pristine golf course.

For starters, we opted for two plates to savor as much as possible. The choices were the Shrimp Spring Rolls and the Spinach and Artichoke Dip, as suggested by our server.

The Shrimp Spring Rolls meld wonderfully an Asian infusion and the Edison flair. This house specialty blends unique taste, composition, and dipping sauces. The appetizer is served with a chili aioli and plum sauce. The chili aioli is simply a sweet, garlic mayonnaise type sauce that sweetens every bite, but also gives it a little kick. And the plum sauce added a sweet and sour flavoring that was quite tasty.

The Spinach and Artichoke Dip was freshly made. The dip came with tricolored corn chips that were just griddled. The dip was good, but for our taste had too much spinach and not enough of a creamy consistency to it.

Finally, a sampling of the Lobster Bisque was extraordinary and left us anticipating what the main entrees would bring.
Upon questioning the house staples, our attentive and knowledgeable server suggested the day’s special, the Firestone BBQ Chicken Sandwich, and the Tilapia Wrap.

The special for the day was a Mahi Sandwich served with seasoned steak fries. The mahi came on a toasted bun with onions, lemon, greens and what appeared to be a tartar sauce on the side. The mahi delivered a truly sensational taste and the fries were perfect— crunchy, long, thick slices cooked ideally.

The Firestone BBQ Chicken Sandwich was a great recommendation. Served on a toasted Kaiser bun, the barbeque grilled chicken breast was marinated and paired with provolone cheese and bacon. The breast was succulent and savory and served with our choice of the yummy steak fries.

The presentation of everything was nicely done. A plentiful serving, boasting with flavor was apparent in every dish. And what appeared to be the restaurants new owner took the time to make sure all was well.
The menu boasts other plates like the McGregor HomeStyle Meatloaf, the Cowboy Ribeye, the New York Reuben, homemade pasta and pizza and much more. These treats are dishes we must return for. Rumor also has it the night life is not all that bad, with happy hour specials and a Wednesday’s ladies night.

All-in-all, The Edison Restaurant and Bar shows promise by providing a pleasant ambiance with attractive and delectable fare choices.
