Downtown Diva: Edison Gatormania
The style was mostly blue and orange football
jerseys when I stopped by The Edison on McGregor last Saturday
night as Gator fans celebrated their team's big victory over
the Seminoles. I didn't get there until after 10 p.m., but
the indoor bar and veranda were packed with Gators still raising
their glasses and toasting the big win.
Naples-based funk/blues/rock band Little Eddie
and the Fatfingers attracted a huge crowd on the dance floor,
and it was fun running into Michael Doyle, Tina DiCharia,
Duane Waber and Renee Venafro - all having a fab time.
Because I accidentally forgot to go to college
and know nothing about college football, my friend and Gator
Club member Caryn Clark tells me that Saturday is a really
big game, as the University of Florida takes the field in
the SEC Championship.
Tailgating starts at The Edison at noon, kick-off
is at 4 p.m. and activities include a biggest fan contest!

Classic American cuisine is what's on the
menu at The Edison Restaurant on McGregor Boulevard. But the
history on the walls says it all.
The 12,000-square-foot building was recently
reopened as an eatery that celebrates American inventor Thomas
A. Edison.
"This is something the community has
been waiting for ... a restaurant that really celebrates the
area's rich history," said Daniel Kearns, one of the
owners of the restaurant. "The community has really embraced
us."

The sprawling establishment recently changed
concepts again. Now it's The Edison, with ambience that befits
one of the city's architectural grand dames. The halls, bar
and dining rooms have all been repainted in lovely retro shades
of deep brown and cream. Historic photographs from the Edison
era fittingly adorn the walls, depicting Edison and his friends,
including Harvey Firestone, Henry Ford and Jim Newton. Other
shots show the city as it was a century ago.

Viva La Diva: a divalicious blog
The food was delicious (I had the famous chicken
pot pie; my hubby had the meat loaf), but what really struck
us was the party! Both bars (the one inside has a cozy elegance;
while the outdoor bar overlooking the golf course is breezy
and open) were absolutely packed with people having a fab
time.
